Ancient scripture is loaded with the power to transform and unify and the power to polarize and alienate. Whether that scripture is the Bhagavad Gita, the Bible, the Quran, or others, for millennia these texts have shaped and formed our human society and civilization in our pursuit of love and truth. One could claim that the greatest acts of love and sacrifice have been done in the name of scripture as well as the most heinous acts of hatred and violence.
Lately, I've been hungry for truth, an absolute truth I can build my life and beliefs upon. I've been studying in university for many years; I have found that while I have read many interesting books and research papers and engaged in countless insightful discussions, nothing has touched my soul.
Where else do I turn?
Well... scripture. Millions have turned to scripture before me, surely I can find some gem of truth to build my life upon. That said, I've often been intimidated by scripture, believing I'm not worthy or ready or just smart enough or faithful enough to read and understand. I also don't want the pursuit of truth to shrink and harden my heart and make me judgmental towards others. I want the pursuit of truth to expand and soften my heart to love in alignment with my soul.
So in a spirit of humble inquiry, I am embarking upon a quest to explore the ancient scripture, the Bhagavad Gita, with translations and commentary by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami. I plan to complete the scripture by the end of 2020 within 100 posts, so I will read 9 for each post. Then, I will choose one verse to reflect upon and offer a thoughtful, reflective analysis along with some personal notes and possible connections to my life and current events.
I want truth.
I want love.
I want both.
I sincerely do.
You are warmly invited to drop by when you feel so inspired.
